Benefits of hardening

1. Surface hardening to improve the durability and economy of steel parts

One of the main advantages of a hardened case is that it increases the durability of the steel components. The mechanical strength and surface hardness and retention of the soft core caused by surface hardening significantly improve the wear resistance and fatigue life of the part. Retaining a soft core improves the ability to absorb the energy released by impact loads. It helps extend service life and economic benefits.

2. Use steel with excellent machinability due to surface hardening and use it for high-quality applications.

Generally speaking, alloys used for large applications need to be harder and stronger and therefore have lower machinability. In this case, the case hardening process provides the precise machinability that mild steel can possess for weapons and firearms applications and other similar rugged applications that require mechanical strength, fine surface preparation and precise geometry. Post-machining case hardening provides excellent wear resistance and hardness to the surface of precision machined parts.

4. Nitriding surface hardening

Case hardening of nitrided steel allows it to withstand loads with low deformation and wear resistance. At around 150°C (302°F), nitrided surfaces do not lose the hardness of carburized steel.
