How is The Complex Prototype Model Processed ?

Sep 04 , 2023 | Blog

When developing new products in many industries, prototypes are required. They are used to test the soundness of the product design to speed up the introduction of new products. In the past, people were hand-made, so it was relatively simple. With the rapid development of all aspects of society, the structure and appearance of hand-made models have become more and more complicated, and the hand-made method is no longer effective. So, how are these complex prototypes made?

There are two main ways to process complex prototypes - CNC machining and 3D printing. Since CNC machining is processed by numerical control technology, more complex prototypes can be processed with higher precision, and the precision is also relatively high. But if the hand model is too complicated, it needs to be disassembled for processing. For complex plastic prototypes, materials such as ABS, PC, and acrylic are generally used for processing. These materials have good viscosity, and the dismantling and splicing of the parts has little effect on the strength. For metal prototypes, it is usually welded back after disassembly.

3D printing can handle various complex curved surfaces and special-shaped structures. It can be formed at one time, and it can realize things that cannot be processed by traditional processing without considering the use of fixtures. In short, in the eyes of most people, traditional prototyping can only be infinitely close to the prototype of the product, so as to verify the product, but there will always be mistakes, and the use of 3D printing can directly output the actual product. But before the shortcomings of 3D printing, the cost of processing large prototypes is too high. Therefore, many complex large prototypes are processed by CNC.
