Vacuum Casting and CNC Machining  for PP Material Prototypes

Advantage of PP Material

The advantage of PP material is that it has low density, good strength, rigidity, hardness and heat resistance, and can be used in an environment of about 100 degrees Celsius. It has good electrical properties and high-frequency insulation and is not affected by humidity. The disadvantage is that it becomes brittle at low temperature, is not wear-resistant, and is easy to age. According to the characteristics of the PP prototype material, some customers need to meet the needs of the product's structure and functional characteristics, so we often need us to make PP plastic prototypes.

PP material is generally processed in the prototype industry as a plate. After cutting a whole plate, it is placed on a CNC numerical control machine tool for engraving and milling. Purchased raw materials are generally translucent. The density of PP is slightly lower than that of ABS prototype material. Probably around 1.25. The advantage of making this kind of prototype is that it is relatively tough and will not break when it is very brittle.

Disadvantages of PP Material

However, using PP material as a prototype also has disadvantages in processing, that is, the processing process will be more difficult, because this material is not sticky to glue, which means that some places with undercuts cannot enter the CNC cutter head. cannot be processed directly. The way we generally use is to repair those undercuts by hand! Human factors in it will lead to a decrease in the accuracy of the prototype product, but basically it can still meet the needs of customers!

If the PP prototypes quantity made by the customer is a little larger, it can be more cost-effective to choose silicone composite molds. First, use 3D printing or CNC machining to make a prototype of the prototype, then use the prototype to make the corresponding silicone mold, and then use the silicone mold to replicate. mold, this process is more cost-effective in the case of a large number of prototypes.
