What is Sheet Metal Technics ?

Sheet metal is a comprehensive cold working process for metal and some non-metallic sheets (usually below 6mm), including shearing, punching/cutting/punching composite, bending, welding, riveting, splicing, forming, etc., its obvious characteristics It is the same part with the same thickness. Usually, the three most important steps in a sheet metal factory are shearing, punching/cutting, and folding. The data required for sheet metal processing, such as unfolded diagrams, bending lines, etc., are obtained mainly through the editing of 3D graphics by sheet metal software, and provide machine tool processing data for CNC punching machines, laser cutting machines, punching compound machines and CNC bending machines.

 

 

The general process of sheet metal processing is:


 (1) Blanking/blanking, cold-rolled sheets, galvanized sheets, aluminum sheets, and copper sheets are suitable for processing with shearing machines or CNC punching machines, and stainless steel materials are usually laser cut;

(2)  CNC bending and forming;

(3) Fitter, including sinking, tapping, reaming, drilling, flanging, riveting and other processes;

(4) Combined welding of parts and components;

(5) Welding, grinding and correction treatment;

(6) Surface treatment, including electroplating, oxidation, wire drawing treatment, etc. ;

⑺Spraying treatment, including powder spraying and oil spraying;

⑻Silk screen and assembly process;

⑼Final inspection FQC. The order of these processes varies according to the product, there are more or less, there are front and back.

 

Generally speaking, in addition to strict requirements in the production process, the quality of sheet metal parts also needs to pay attention to the protection between processes, and also requires quality inspection independent of production. In the past, it was tested by human experience and simple tools. Now Auxiliary equipment, such as various instruments and sheet metal inspection equipment, has been gradually imported. One is to strictly control the size according to the drawings, and the other is to strictly control the appearance quality, and repair or scrap the parts that do not match the size. No scratches are allowed on the appearance, and the color difference, corrosion resistance, and adhesion after spraying are inspected. In this way, errors in development diagrams, bad habits in each process, errors in processes, etc. can be found based on errors and defects, such as digital punching or laser programming errors, and mold use errors.

 

It can be seen that it is not easy to make a good product. Because there are many processes, and there are few factories that can cover many processes, the production of most sheet metal processing plants only involves part of the process, such as the Job-shop for laser blanking, and the processing plants that only do welding, electroplating or painting. Some stamping factories also do sheet metal processing business. The above problems have caused difficulties in quality control between processes, making it difficult to control the overall quality.

 

Due to the low barriers to entry in the sheet metal industry, companies are mixed and vicious competition is serious. The sheet metal industry lacks vocational education and professional education, and the technical level of the industry is uneven. The absence of apprenticeships prevents the inheritance of craftsmanship and experience. The lack of pricing standards in the industry is unfavorable to early business quotations, causing price competition to gradually become a single means of competition; there is no inspection standard and specification, so the later delivery is very passive...Because of the above chaos, the sheet metal processing industry has gradually become Caught in a predicament, had to survive in the cracks of various industries.
